Round 1 Final Preparations 2015

Its been a stressful preseason and with all the panic of picking a team, lets take a minute to just chill out and think about our final preparations for each of our leagues…

ROUND 1 – ROLLING LOCKOUT

Unlike last year in Fantasy where we had the free hit due to the split round, Round 1 for 2015 is a full round of games spanning from Thursday night to Easter Monday, which means your team is set as of this week. But being an extended weekend our teams are locked out in stages.

The Carlton and Richmond teams will be locked out as of Thurs Night when the game begins, and only players from these 2 teams need to be locked in your team. This means if you have players like Martin, McIntosh, Lambert, Cripps, Byrne… you need to check if they are playing, and if they are the sub or not, and lock them in or take them out. You also need to decide are you playing them on field or on your bench. Take time on Thursday afternoon after teams are announced to just double check the guys you picked are playing and DONT PANIC if they are not. Dont change your entire team structure just because one rookie isnt playing. There will be others.

THE REST OF THE TEAMS

With no football on Good Friday, you can spend the day looking over the other teams which are announced on Thursday night. Take time on Friday to sort the rest of your team out. Things to look for in the team announcements are if Ablett is playing or not, and if the rest of your rookies are named or not.

FULL LOCKOUT SATURDAY

The rest of your team must be locked in place before the GoldCoast vs Melbourne match on Saturday afternoon. One thing you will know before lockout is if Ablett is a late withdrawal or if he is in. You will also know the sub for this game which might effect your rookie picks of Saad, Salem, Hogan, Vandenberg or Newton.

I repeat though… your entire team needs to be locked in before this game starts.

DONT FORGET TO PICK YOUR CAPTAIN

Dont forget to pick a captain and vice captain and set your emergencies. Sometimes we overlook these simple things in round 1 when there are so many other stresses.

WE WONT KNOW MONDAYS TEAMS

Unfortunately we wont know the Geelong and Hawthorn teams, only their extended squads. This means there is some doubt over Smedts, Anderson, Woodward, and co. It may mean picking those players but benching them, with no guarantee they are playing, or if they do, that they aren’t the sub.

WHEN DO HEAD TO HEAD GAMES START

This might differ depending on if you are playing DreamTeam or Fantasy, and whether you are playing private or public leagues, or whether you are playing the Elite Draft or even Supercoach. My advice is to find out if you are playing someone from Round 1 onwards and send them a message fueling a bit of banter for the weekend 🙂

FINALLY… FINALISE YOUR TEAMS AND DONT PANIC

Dont make sweeping changes to your team at the last minute. You should have your structure by now. You have seen all of our cheatsheets and advice. There is little left to do, other than make minor adjustments based on the team announcements.

So i repeat… DONT PANIC.

NO LAST MINUTE MAJOR CHANGES.

OUR FINAL TEAMS – STAY TUNED

I will be posting our final teams for both Fantasy and Dreamteam shortly and from there you are on your own.

Finally, I’ll be on twitter every game and right through the season so follow me @dreamteamfml and keep me posted on how your Round 1 goes!

Goodluck!
